Boon Tong Kee Philippines (Tomas Morato Branch)

Boon Tong Kee

Sometime ago, my timeline was flooded with photos from a new Singaporean restaurant along Tomas Morato called Boon Tong Kee. I invited my friends so we could all try it out and see what the buzz is all about.

Signature Boiled Chicken whole PhP 845

We are a group of five so we ordered one whole Signature Boiled Chicken. This is Hainanese chicken with cucumber and kiam chai on the side. The meat was tender. As for the price, it is a few pesos cheaper than Wee Nam Kee's.

The chicken was big enough for our group of 3 girls and 2 boys. Of course, that's not the only one we ordered.

Also available are Quarter PhP 245 and Half PhP 455.

 Hainanese Chicken sauce

I find the Hainanese Chicken sauce in Wee Nam Kee better tasting than here in Boon Tong Kee.

 Chicken rice PhP 65

We all agreed that the rice seems a bit on the salty side.
Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs PhP 295

We didn't expect Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs to be this soupy. We were given a Chinese soup spoon and a bowl so we could scoop it. This is a comfort dish especially on a rainy night.
Crispy Beancurd PhP 185

Ever tasted a crispy bean curd with a green tea dip? We did! Only we could taste more of the mayo instead of green tea ; p
Fried Spareribs with Zhen Jiang Sauce PhP 395

If you are ordering from the menu, skip this Fried Spareribs with Zhen Jiang Sauce. There were only a few ribs and it was not tasty at all. It was a disappointment and not even worth your money.

Crispy Cereal Prawns large PhP 655

I think I was able to eat at least 2 pieces of Crispy Cereal Prawns ; ) This is a pretty expensive dish because it only used jumbo Tiger prawns. My friend commented that Wee Nam Kee's version was better. I can't wait to try that out next time.

Boon Tong Kee has some hits and misses which the restaurant can improve on. It seems to me that aside from Milk Tea and CroNut, Hainanese Chicken is taking a spot in the limelight. Any suggestions on where else I can have my Hainanese Chicken fix?
